Villa Cerqualto, Citta della Pieve, Umbria
The house is a totally functional restoration with modern and spacious rooms without sacrificing character. The home was pristinely clean and tastefully furnished with regional furniture, antiques and some of the owner’s personal mementos. The rating would have been higher were there better communications – weak internet and lack of dedicated phone, but Stephanie does a great job of making things work. We had a home-cooked meal while we were there – the pasta and tiramisu were exquisite.
The restaurants in Citta della Pieve and in Monteleone di Orvieto offer great personality, beautiful regional cuisine and good value. The local wines are wonderful as one would expect of this region. We also used the location to roam and visit several of the Umbrian hill towns that would not be on the regular tourist plan. We also visited Florence for an easy day of “conventional” tourism.
We were in the area to play golf. The villa is well located in proximity to the A1 which permits access to Florence in about 90 minutes and specifically to enable play at La Pavoniere and Ugolino. The house is also about the same distance from Antognello and the Golf Club of Perugia. These four courses represent an interesting combination of great course design, local character and very enjoyable experiences to more than fill a one week stay. With more time, one could venture further afield to several other world class courses.
Congratulations to Stefanie on a beautfiul restoration, a very comfortable home and on her welcoming personality. I recommend this property as an enjoyable experience.
